Meet the Author

Chris George is a children’s book author, arts advocate, and the founder of Kimchi Krew Books, a publishing space rooted in diversity, creativity, and culture. As a proud dance mom turned “dance Gigi,” Chris writes heartfelt stories that reflect the richness of multicultural families, the joy of the performing arts, and the importance of representation in children’s literature.

Born to a proud African American military father from Tennessee and a strong, driven mother from Seoul, Korea, Chris has long understood the power of identity, belonging, and cultural pride. Inspired by her own children’s experiences in dance, Tae Kwon Do, and performance, she began writing books that her family, and countless others could see themselves in.

Chris serves as a Behavior Support Facilitator with Henrico County Public Schools and is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid trainer, working directly with youth on mental wellness, social-emotional learning, and identity development. She holds a Master’s in Nonprofit Studies from the University of Richmond and a B.S. in Business Administration and Management from Virginia Commonwealth University (Go RAMS!), with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Small Business. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to further her commitment to supporting youth and families.

In addition to her work in education and publishing, Chris is the Program Director for Brown Ballerinas for Change, a nonprofit that advocates for equity in the arts and amplifies youth voices through dance and storytelling. Her academic publication, The Funding of Start-up Nonprofits: An Exploration of Funder Perceptions, Attitudes, and Advice, offers practical insights for emerging nonprofit leaders and changemakers.

Deeply committed to community engagement, Chris has spent years supporting youth and families through volunteerism, mentorship, and nonprofit development across the country. She currently serves as a Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, helping bring hope and joy to children facing critical illness.

Whether she’s backstage with a bobby pin, leading a community event, or crafting the next dance-inspired tale, Chris remains devoted to creating spaces where all children feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.
